The fear of the unknown at war with the burning need to see distant shores...

In the late 1800s, one man set out across an ocean in an ancient sailing vessel, determined to seek his family's fortune in a new land. What grew from his bravery and triumph is a family saga that spans several generations and countless homelands...

A tale of faith, family, and the entrepreneurial spirit is recorded here, along with awe-inspiring descriptions of the geography, its people, its history, and what it means to survive, adapt and thrive in a new land...

Written first as a memoir for the generations that came after, this story is equal parts genealogy, history, and travelogue, sure to delight anyone who craves adventure.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Ashraf Sheikh was born in 1940 in Nairobi, Kenya. He completed his schooling in Nairobi. As there was no medical school in Kenya at the time, he obtained his MBBS from King Edward Medical College, Lahore. He proceeded to Makerere University School of Medicine, Kampala, for his FRCS Part I and to Scotland for his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Dr. Sheikh travelled extensively and obtained intensive Orthopedic Surgery training and experience in England, Scotland, Germany, USA, South Africa, and Kenya.

Bitten by the golf bug in Scotland, he ritually indulged in it in Kenya, an idyllic haven for outdoor sports. He continues to enjoy the game presently in Frisco, Texas, where he lives with his wife Sadia, a former science teacher.

Testimonial

'We at Eastleigh Secondary School Alumni were requested by the Principal at Eastleigh High School, Nairobi to provide them a Basketball court. ESS Alumni made an appeal for a new Basketball and Volleyball court for the students at Eastleigh High School, Nairobi to all our members. We were rewarded with huge support from our members and a beautiful court has been built which will be inaugurated in May 2022. One of the most generous donations came from Dr Ashraf Sheikh (1953-1956). He kindly gave the proceeds of the sales of his book 'Paradise on Earth' (available on Amazon) and on behalf of donations made by some readers of his book.'
